Men's Spring Fashion Essentials

It's always fun to pick up a few new things when the seasons change. It's also a great opportunity to incorporate into your wardrobe a few key trends. Here are some spring fashion essentials to keep you looking stylish.

1. Trench Coat

Trench coats have been a staple of the male wardrobe for decades, and this spring does not waver from that trend. This masculine-looking coat has a military cut, can be single or double-breasted, and typically has a belt to cinch at the waist. Most importantly is the functionality of a trench coat with its deeper pockets and ability to shield your wardrobe underneath from the rain. This one by Banana Republic is a grea value and looks like an expensive Burberry trench coat.

2. Sport Coat & Blazer

Men's sport coats and blazers have become a wardrobe staple now more than ever. Guys are wearing sport coats with jeans in lieu of other outerwear, and I personally love the look. Blazers, sport coats and any variation of a suit jacket make a guy look put together. They are also a great layering piece during transitional weather, like in spring.

3. Patterned Shirts

Patterned shirts, espcecially in plaid, are huge for spring 2010. You can find both bold prints and more subtle prints, but either way, it's a seasonal must have. I like the more subtle plaid prints that have a retro feel. See my top picks list for ideas.

4. A Suit

The suit will never go out of fashion or season, however, the style certainly can fluctuate from year to year. Do not take for granted what the right suit can do for you. This is one area where a little investment in tailoring will serve you for years to come. Those who wear a suit right off the rack, with the way it hangs and drapes in all the wrong areas, fool no one. You can always find a great bargain on a suit, leaving you room in the bank to take it to a tailor to fit your body properly.
